Declaration and Monitoring System of Industrial Solid Waste

Resolution Nº5081 / 1993 establishes declaration and monitoring of industrial solid waste, in Metropolitan Region.

The objectives of the resolution are the following:

  • To lay down a record of industrial solid waste generated in the Metropolitan Region, which contains information about waste quantity and type, discriminating whether is a hazardous or innocuous waste.
  • To keep an updated registry of industrial solid waste generation, transport and destination in Metropolitan Region. This resolution is applied to industrial establishments that generate, because of its processes and operations, solid wastes of industrial, transport or destination kind.

By means of this resolution, an industrial solid waste is understood to be, “any solid or semisolid waste derived from any industrial process or operation which it is not usable, recovered or recycled within the same industrial establishment.

It is included on this definition wastes or disposal products, whether liquid or gaseous. “What defines the type of waste of the above is the container or recipient that contains this kind of waste”

This resolution stipulates that evacuation of any industrial solid waste must be declared. In order to do that, from the moment the waste leaves the generating establishment up to its final destination, a declaration document must be kept.

Some general characteristics are established regarding declaration documents and its respective consolidates, as well as obligations and duties of the wastes generator, transporter and receiver, in accordance to the delivery of these documents to the Metropolitan Health Service of Environment.
