The Norm ISO 14000
The norm ISO14001, “Requirements for the Implementation of a System of Environmental Management”, has been elaborated by the committee ISO/TC 207 of the Standardization International Organization (ISO, in his abbreviation in English), it was approved in July, 1996, transposed in October like European norm EN-ISO14001, published in Spain in November and accredited in Chile, like Chilean Norm by the INN.
It has been declared: Official Chilean Norm of the Republic By Resolution N°389, of date August 18 of 1997, of Ministry of Economy, Promotion and Reconstruction, published in the Official Newspaper N° 35,857 of September 2 of 1997.
Denomination ISO of series 14000 corresponds to an international standard of certification of environmental management systems, is of voluntary character and it is characterized mainly by three pillars:
Pollution Prevention
Continuous improvement.
Fulfillment with the environmental legality of the country where it is applied.
These three pillars must be including a commitment level, in the company environmental policy that decides to certify,aside from their corporative principles and other declarations that can be included in voluntary form and that “connects” this specific policy with the company strategic planning.
